Massage of the Skull

It is done on particular points on the skull, which are as follows:

The massage on the first point, called Marma, is considered very effective. It is said that this is meeting point of vessels, nerves and lymphatic systems (Vata, Pitta and Kapha Doshas). The massage at this point in a gentle, clockwise circles gradually increases and releases pressure. This movement of massage gives relief in neck tension and tension headche, improves mental clarity and ability to concentrate, and corrects deformities in upper and lower spine.

The second point is Brahma Kandra, a small ridge or depression on the skull. Massage at this point in a very gentle clockwise, circular motion regulates hormone release by stimulating pituitary and pineal glands. It facilities the release of serotonin into the blood stream, which elevates the mood, induce sleep, helps in headache and gives a sense of pleasure.

The third point is Shiva Kandra (the third eye), situated at posterior part of the skull, where bones of the skull come together. Massage at this point helps in lowering of blood pressure. It improves memory and makes body alert.

The fourth point is Karna Marma, which is bony bump behind the right ear lobe. The area from this point to the base of the neck should be massaged in firm clockwise circular movements. It relaxes muscles of face and jaw.

The fifth point is massage of the scalp on both the right and left side, from the back of the skull over the head to hairline. This massage helps in general circulation of blood in the body.
