Nasya
It is application of drug through nose usually for seven days. This treatment
is for the nervous and respiratory system, like chronic headache, cold,
sinusitis, bronchial problems. This treatment is said to help in various
nervous diseases like facial paralysis, insomnia, loss of speech, pain
and stiffness in the shoulders etc. In this treatment medicated oil, Ghee,
herbs etc are inserted as snuff into the nostril, which get deposited
in the mucus membrane of the nose. The nose has much thinner capillaries,
so the drug is absorbed more rapidly, and passes to both brain and lungs.
Before the treatment head and neck of thle patients are massaged withl
oil and the area is fomented. The patient is asked to inhale the required
medication through one nostril, which is applied by a funnel like instrument.
The other nostril is kept closed. After this it is passed through closed
nostril. Various parts of the body like soles, palms, ears and forehead
are rubbed for a few minutes, and the patient is asked to spit out the
mucus collected in the mouth.
