In this a stream of a fluid is continuously poured from a clay pot, having a wick in the hole at the bottom, on the forehead of the patient lying in a wooden box, from a specific height and fluid is allowed to flow along the body. The fluid may be made from a mixture of sesame oil, medicated oils, cow’s milk, yoghurt milk,and other fluids as per requirement of the patient. The vessel is kept moving right and left, and when empty is refilled with the same fluid again. This treatment takes about one to one and half hours. It is repeated for 7-21 days, in the morning or evening.

This Dhara is said to help in anxiety neurosis by stabilizing metabolism In an experimental trial about 1000ml of sesame oil was allowed to flow down on the patient daily for 10 days. It helped in withdrawal symptoms of alcohol,narcotics(drugs), anxiety, irritability, panicky reaction hallucination, headache, cramp and disorientation tremors. The effect was evident after 4-5 days of treatment.

In a slight different version, Takardhara-a prepartion containing a mixture of Amla decoction in youhurt is poured on the head. This therapy has been found useful in anxiety neurosis, depressive psychosis, insomnia and hypertension.
