For Increasing Urine (Diuretics)
The herbs used are :
(a) Gokshru in the form of a decoction is used. It makes urine alkaline
and increases sodium and potassium in it.
(b) Hauber is used as diuretic in most parts of the world. The essential
oil of this fruit is an important component of alcoholic preparation,
gin.
(c) Kulah dal increases urine by its enzymatic action and has been found
useful in kidney stone and in other urinary problems. It is cooked as
a bean, and a soup made from it, seasoned with salt and pepper, is given
to the patients. The cooked bean left after the soup may be used as a
common item of diet.
(d) Punernava in the form of a powder or an aqueous decoction is a nrinary
antiseptic. It increases glomerular filtration rate and is useful in nephritic
syndrome. It is as effective as modern diuretics. The herb induced diuresis,
and increased urine flow besides relief in clinical edema. The patients
using this herb showed an overall improvement such as decrease in albumen,
urea, rise in serum protein and fall in cholesterol levels.
(e) Revand Chini removes excessive amount of nitrogen from the blood through
urine. It caused a decrease in blood urea, nitrogen in the protal vein,
urea concentration in hepatic tissue and most of the amino acid in the
serum. A significant increase in glutamine in hepatic tissue was observed.
(f) Varun bark has diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and tonic
effect on the urinary system. It provided marked relief in frequency,
incontinence, pain and retention of urine, in cases of prostatic hypertrophy
with hypotonic (defective muscle tone) bladder. It helped the patients
after prostrate operation. It prevented the formation of kidney stone.
It resulted in symptomatic and bacteriological improvements in proven
cases of chronic urinary tract infection.
